Everyday, the world consumes millions of paper and plastic bags. Learn more about the impact of paper and plastic bags in our video, "Paper, Plastic or Reusable Bags?". Our video also provides some helpful tips for getting into the habit of bringing your own bag.

Maybe you've seen them before but here are... Ten More Tips on how to be more "Green"
  1. Keep reusable bags in your car so you can grab them the next time you go shop. Even if you forget them once you get inside the store, you're always closer to your car than to your home.
  2. Be different and bring a reusable bag to the shopping mall. You'll get confused faces at the register but imagine how many of those odd-shaped shopping mall bags you'll save. What are you supposed to do with all those mall bags you've been saving anyway?
  3. Unplug your cell phone charger when you're not using it. Even though it's not charging your phone, it's consuming energy.
  4. Gather up all of those catalogs that you don't need and call to request to be removed from their mailing list. Better yet, check out this free service, Catalog Choice to do it all at once.
  5. Do more than curbside recycling by composting. Check if your City subsidizes low-cost compost bins. Also, try worm composting! It's easy and you'll make the best fertilizer out of your own trash!
  6. Plant native and drought tolerant plants. Not only do they require less water, plants help to absorb carbon dioxide.
  7. Go Fluorescent. Compact fluorescent bulbs save energy and come in all sorts of shapes so they don't look like an eyesore.
  8. Consume less energy when you're on vacation. Unplug everything that don't need to be on (toaster, hair dryer, lamps, etc.) and reduce the temperature on your water heater. Why heat the water if you're not going to use it?
  9. Is water going down the drain while you wait for it to get hot? Keep a pitcher or bucket nearby to collect the water and use it to water your plants.
  10. Not far to go? Try walking or biking next time instead of driving.
